Crew Management and Supervision: Responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the deck crew, providing hands-on instruction and guidance, monitoring individual and team performance, and assisting with supervisory duties and performance evaluations.

Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all vessel operations adhere to company safety policies, maritime regulations, and best practices. Conduct monthly safety drills and meetings, and serve as the designated Vessel Security Officer in accordance with the Vessel Security Plan.

Vessel and Tow Operations: Oversee the assembly and maintenance of the tow, including the handling of lines and cables. Participate in vessel upkeep, routine maintenance, and housekeeping, while assisting with navigational tasks as required.

Documentation and Reporting: Support the Captain in preparing and maintaining accurate log entries, operational reports, and communication records, including maintaining radio watch as necessary.

Cargo Management: Ensure that all crew members are informed of the type, location, and potential hazards of cargo aboard each barge to maintain safety and compliance standards.

Communication: Facilitate clear and professional communication with vessel crew, shore-based personnel, and external entities such as the U.S. Coast Guard and lock authorities.

Budgetary Input: Contribute to vessel budget planning and financial oversight, assisting in the identification of cost-saving measures and operational efficiencies.
